Report on Just-Ice 2014

Just Ice 2014, the cultural, academic and the sporting festival of the Rizvi Law College was held between February 03-04, 2014. The theme for this year was Nowy Jork: Bright Lights Big Cities and showcased New York. The theme and settings were built around New York complete with sky scrapers, Street signs, Statue of Liberty and even a New York Taxi. The creative team put it all there.

The festival was inaugurated by Dr.Padma Deshmukh, the Controller of Examinations of the University of Mumbai. She lighted the lamp and declared the festival open amidst a well-attended audience. Stall were also put up by the American Library, Titan watches who offered almost 40% discount on the watches and Xavier Savor Perfumes who were launching their line of French perfumes, Eau De Toilettes and body sprays targeting the Indian youth. The American Library counter was manned by the librarians from ther American Center in BKC and offered immense information on studying in the U. S.

Day 1 of the festival saw caricature making, Rink Football and judgment writing, Solo dancing competition and Quiz competition in the morning session. In the Judgment writing, the participants had to observe a demo moot and were required to draft a judgment to conclude the case. The Rink Football attracted a good number of teams to participate. So was the judgment writing competition which actually saw 24 teams participating in the contest.

The afternoon of Day 1 saw several other interesting competitions including Mask making, Treasure Hunt and the preliminary round of Parliamentary Debate, Street plays, Solo dances and Group Dancing. A huge audience had gathered to watch the performances. The judges as well as the audience were spellbound at the performances. The Preliminary round of Parliamentary debates also saw a good number of students participating in the competition. Poster making competitions also saw about 15 participants and the theme was environment. Another interesting event was the girls tug or war which generated a considerable excitement. The group dancing competitions went late into the night and everyone enjoyed.

Day 2 of the Just-Ice saw the Throw ball competition for the girls and Volley ball competitions foe the boys. The final round of the Parliamentary Debate began in the morning with arrival of the judges. The Judges were Madam Nagma, the film star and a member of the AICC, Mr. Ashish Shelar, the BJP leader and a social activist and Mr. Braphus Kaalund, the Political Consul of the U S Consulate in Mumbai. The debate on Punishing juvenile rapist by reducing their age was well argued by the opposition parties who had moved the motion and well defended by the Government. The judges were all impressed by the quality of the speakers. The morning session also saw Cartoon making competitions, Solo singing competition as well as Box Cricket events. The turn Coat which is an interesting debating format where the individual speakers have to switch sides either for or against at the ring of the bell. The debate lasts for 3 minutes in total. The events held in the noon included Basketball competitions, Photography and Street play competitions along with Mute competitions were also held.

The culmination of the Just-Ice was the Fashion show in which 13 colleges show cased their talents and creativity. There were two rounds: High Street fashion and the Choreographers choice. The judges were Mr. Abis Rizvi, Secretary of the RES, Mr.Atul Agnihotri, the celebrated producer of some of the best Bollywood hits including Dabangg and Ms. Kahori Roskamp, the wife of the Public Affairs Officer of the U. S Consulate. Celebrated Fashion Designer Mr. Rohit Varma and the upcoming model Ms. Pragya Yadav were some of the celebrities who attended the Fashion show amidst more than a 500 strong crowd in the auditorium. The audience and the guests were left mesmerized by the young students who walked the ramp in some of the most gorgeous dresses ever seen. Rizvi College of Arts and Science walked away with the cash award and the trophy while the RLC students were the runners up. However the best male and female models were bagged by the RLC students.
